before you fly
Three things to do at home
-

Install an eSIM so you have data the moment you land
You need data for Grab, maps and messaging. Installing at home means no SIM counter queue and no upselling at the airport.
-

Get your e-visa from the official site only
Check whether your nationality is visa-exempt first. If you need one, the 90-day e-visa costs USD 25 single entry or USD 50 multiple entry on the government portal. Agent sites charge more for the same visa.
-

Landing late or with kids? Book your ride now
City buses stop around 7:30 pm, and Hoi An is a 45–60 minute drive if you’re heading straight there. A pre-booked car means a driver with your name at the gate and a price fixed in advance.
Which eSIM for your trip?

You’ll need roughly 4.9 GB for your trip. This is an estimate; heavy video use can double it.

Scams to skip at DAD
Freelance drivers at the exit
Drivers waiting near the exit may quote three to four times the real fare. Use the official taxi rank or book in an app.
Fake-brand taxis
Look-alike cars run inflated meters. Ride only with Vinasun or Mai Linh, and check the full company name on the door.
Poor rates at the exchange counter
Currency counters inside the airport give a poor rate. Use a bank ATM by the exit instead.
Your first day in Da Nang
-
Take cash from an ATM by the exit
Vietcombank and BIDV ATMs are by the exit. About 500,000 VND covers your ride and first meals. Decline the machine’s offer to convert to your home currency.
-
Dodge the evening surge
Grab prices rise in rain and between 5 and 7 pm. If you’re not in a hurry, wait 15 minutes and check the price again.
-
Keep your e-visa approval letter offline
Immigration may ask for it. Save a PDF or screenshot, because you may not have data in the queue.
